The
Louisville Water Companys White Water Tower at River Road and
Zorn Avenue served as the design inspiration for their new corporate
headquarters building. The sweeping curve of the glass curtain wall
serves as backdrop to two elevator towers that are detailed to be
reminiscent of the Zorn Avenue complex. Visual cues such as blue glass
that hints of aquariums, and pipe forms that hark back to water pipes,
leave no room for doubt that this is the headquarters of the Louisville
Water Company. The plaza formed at mid-block creates an urban oasis
that is warm and inviting, and is completed by landscaping and a fountain
that further speak to the owner's order of business. Once inside,
a gentle reflecting pool soothes a soaring, four-story atrium space
that is intentionally designed to bring the occupants together in
many little side meeting spaces that are conducive to chance meetings.
It is this spirit of "coming together" that dominates the
interior planning, in order to accomplish what the owner describes
as a desire to continually re-invent themselves" - always encouraging
staff to explore new ways of doing things. |

The
exterior wall surface of the parking garage, and much of the office
building, is detaied of pre-cast concrete. The skin was manipulated
in a highly refined fashion to be reminiscent of its immediate neighbors,
yet is done in such a way that a uniquely recognizable signature building
is accomplished. The building contains 64,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art
offices, and provides covered parking for 220 vehicles. |
